When Is It Time to Hire Staff for Your Law Firm?

The decision to hire can sometimes be a difficult one. Hire too soon, you run the risk of financial trouble. What happens when things slow down and you don’t have the money to pay that salary? Hire too late, and you will hire out of desperation, hiring someone who is not a good fit for the firm.

If growth is a goal for your firm, here are the red flags that will help you know that it is time to hire:

• Are you turning down client work? You may find yourself turning away work because you don’t have the capacity to fulfill a client’s expectations.

• Are your client services suffering? Are you failing to communicate with your client, sending out important documents a little late, and possibly missing deadlines?

• Are you working all the time? If you are spending all your time working on client files and you cannot take a break – you will experience burnout and that will take a toll on the service you provide to your clients.
